Disappearing car door

That's splendid. Biggest problem I can see is the loss of strength due to the absence of the central door pillar. Surely that's got to reduce the rigidity of the car frame.

 

I agree with Reggie and I wonder about exiting the car during a real rainstorm. I can imagine the sort of rain showers we get here where the rain literally blows sideways. That sort of door would result in the entire car being thoroughly soaked. It's an interesting concept but I doubt it will catch on particularly in our climate.

 

That wouldn't work well in my area of the snowbelt. By the time you got in or out of the vehicle you could end up with several inches of snow in it.

 

I could see using this concept for classic show cars. It would certainly let you see what the interiors of the old cars looked like.

We rebuilders of the classics go for that sort of idea -- gull winged doors, door poppers etc. Anything new to get all the attention and trophies!!
