windows looding error

HELP I was working on the illegal program problem by changing the (configsys) now windows showes aproblem in loading, will no come on in normal mode. can you walk me thru?

Just a wee bit more info please What machine, cpu, operating sys, what illegal op.....etc

The reference to illlegal operation is to a posting by me on 8/17/02, and my effort to change loading of windows in configsys. I have just about solved this.
what a NIGHTMARE! Had to reinstall some programs still working .

windows loading error

After using several ideas to solve this problem I wa directrd to , MS knowledge base artical Q160158. In my attempt to implement this fix I lost windows and was unable to restore it-had to reinstall windowa 98. Beware!

Could it be that you mean MSDOS.SYS ? That will mess up Windows bootup.

The config.sys has nothing to do with Windows. If it is causing any problems it would be on the DOS side of the House which could indirectly have an effect on Windows boot up.

If the config.sys possibly is causing problems the best thing to do rename it so that it does not get used.

Windows does not need ( or use ) the config.sys or Autoexec.bat. It is only DOS that uses them.

Most illegal program problems that I have had have been due to the individual program not Windows.
