I'm running XP SP2, and have the computer set to go into standby after 30 minutes. I also have the disk drives power off after 20 minutes. If I start a non-Windows program that takes 45 minutes (spyware scan, virus scan, etc.), will the program continue to run or will Windows stop it? If the latter, when will that occur: at the 20 or 30 minute mark?

I vote you test it and tell us what happens:eek:

My guess is that once the program is finished - it'll start the thirty minute count down and then do into standby.

Agree with Steve - the computer will only go into standby, or the HD turn off, after the specified period of inactivity.

You are quite right. I started a virus scan and it continued well past the time anything was set to shut down. Why didn't I think of this? Thanks for your replies.
