    Hi Wahlroot,

Unless you have a minuscule drive, they will take up little space.

Why they were put there, ask 3COM. I always wonder if similar (empty) folders may be for future use.

    Today I found dwintl.dll
    10.0.2619.0
    Microsoft Application Error
in 1033. Checked Google and found that this is used with messenger, which I do not use. Could be used by other things which I do not use. Checked for spyware, and found nothing. I also do not know why anything from 3 com would be on there.

You missed a word in the description, Microsoft Application Error Reporting.

Mine are dated at the time of Windows installation. Because of "Error Reporting" I might expect error logs go into them.

They are Windows folders. Right click on them and select Properties.

    Hi, wahlroot and Matt. :)

Here's folder information from my C:\WINDOWS\system32\ folder with "Date Created" and "Date Last Modified" information for each. I listed only folders in my system32 folder that begin with a numerical character.

I think I installed my current OS on December 22, 2003 so I also think those folders were placed there during Windows XP installation.

NOTE: Folder 1033 in my computer is the only one with a "Date Last Modified" that differs from the "Date Created ". My folder 1033 is also the only one of the folders I listed that contains a file (the same dwintl.dll wahlroot identified).

Properties for C:\WINDOWS\system32\1033\dwintl.dll Via Windows Explorer:

    • Type of file: Application Extension
    • File version: 10.0.2619.0
    • Description: Microsoft Application Error Reporting
    • Copyright: Copyright© Microsoft Corporation 1999-2001. All rights reserved.

I recommend leaving those folders (and file) intact because they might be required for Windows XP to function properly.

I do not have a "3com_dmi" folder in my C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder. However, I searched my hard drives for "3com_dmi" and found a 3com_dmi.log file in my C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder that contains only the text "No Reboot ".

    Thanks to everyone!!
I will leave the folders where they are. They do not use much hard drive, and maybe mess up something if I remove them. Thanks again!!
