I am getting IE6 shutdowns because of this plugin. I took a look at the plugin folder and it contains:

    ntqtplugin.dll
    ntqtplugin1.dll thru 7
    and
    quicktimeplugin.class

I also looked into the IE6 Manage Add-ons window and there are 2 identical looking Quicktime ActiveX files called QTPlugin.ocx. It's funny that when I looked into the DPF folder, there was no Quicktime file there. Also, (maybe OT) there are 2 identical Java Files in there with the same version and related file name.

Is this right or are one or more files corrupted/needing updating or removal?

    Thanks, Larry

I don't have an install of IE 6 to reference, but in IE 7 there are no Quicktime Add-ons listed and the IE plugins folder contains ....

    nppdf32.dll
    npqtplugin2.dll
    npqtplugin3.dll
    npqtplugin.dll
    QuickTimePlugin.Class

No Quicktime in DPF, but 3 Javas - this is normal.

Which version of Quicktime are you using - the latest AFAIK is 7.4

I suggest you run Secunia Software Inspector (and sign up for the (free) notification of updates) - this will tell you if your version is current and secure.

    Hi Pete,

If I uninstall QT, will it take the plugins with it? If it does, will reinstalling it also reinstall the plugins or is it done on the fly as needed?

Conversely, can I delete the plugins without issue? If so, how do I get them back (on the fly)?

Lastly, is there a way to update them as they stand? No can do from IE Manage Add-Ons, the button to do so is gray.

I will ck on the QT version. It won't let me have this window open to do so, so.... "I'll be back ".

I'm back. I tried to update QT and it kept getting Runtime Buffer Overun errors. I uninstalled and reinstalled QT 7.4. Now, I instead get std Windows "QuickTime has encountered an error and must close... ". Time to reboot and clean up. We'll see what happens over time.
