I spent hours trying to get my networking to run
and when I shut down, I lost the network.

Connected thru 4-port router (D-Link ebr-2310 brand new)
with 2 XP Pro and 1 printer. I was running with it networked for years
and now I can't get it to work.
I have static addresses on the computers and printer.
I'm using a workgroup. I had it running last night. I had all
the sharing set up. A wonderful thing. Until I shut down the first computer
and rebooted. Now I'm back to being unable to get file sharing. Internet
connections are fine. "My Network Places" is very slow or just hangs.
I can rarely see the workgroup and there is usually one computer (or none)
listed under it. I repaired LOCAL AREA CONNECTION and it worked for
short time but I didn't get the whole network working.
I've read many answers for the slow "My Network Places ". None worked.

If I go to My network places and view folders>entire Network > Microsoft
Windows Network, I can see my workgroup but it won't show me the
computers listed under it. It hangs and gives "Warning: Workgroup is not accessible. The list of servers for this workgroup in not currently available."
When it hangs I usually lose icons in system tray and on desk top.

    Thank You,
    DeanP

Addition: When it hangs in network place, it becomes "not responding ".

    issue closed

The problem ended up being the Firewall.
Added a rule for both computers and bingo!
    all done even after rebooting.
