    Hi guys.

Had this problem for about 3 weeks now. I searched in Google and noticed that a couple of people have had this problem and have tried the solutions posted in other forums, but none have worked.

Whenever I hit the red "x" in internet explorer, I get an error message stating that ie needs to shut down. I opened the event viewer and that states that "Faulting application iexplorer.exe version 7.0.6000.16574, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x001d437c9 ".

Did a search for 0x001d437c9 and did not find anything in Google. I have tried running the scanner for faults in ie, but I then got a request for my xp professional key.

I also did the LiveOneCare free scan and that got stuck at 80%. I am using OneCare for antivirus, spyware, and malware, but I don't know if I got infected somehow.

My computer is a Toshiba Satellite M115 - S3094 laptop running Windows XP Media Center Edition. I have a 60 gig harddrive with 1024 gb of ram. Don't know if any of those specifics are useful for this problem, but thought I would post them.

I appreciate in advance any ideas that anyone has for fixing this problem, for at the moment I have definately hit a brick wall. I don't know any other ideas I can think of to fix this problem.

    Tony

Tony - Welcome to the Board :)

You should not be seeing red x's anyway :) - three suggestions which you may already have tried .....

    The red x problem .....

Pictures are not displayed on Web sites in Internet Explorer

    If no joy there .....

Tools > Manage add-ons and disable the lot. If this resolves the problem re-enable one by one until the problem returns - you then have the culprit.

    If still no joy ....

On the assumption that you loaded IE 7 either directly or via Windows Update go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall Windows Internet Explorer 7 - this will roll you back to 6. Then download IE 7 and re-install it. Reboot twice after installing.

Thanks for the welcome and thanks for the ideas Pete.

The red "x" is the x in the top right corner of the window that closes it out.

I tried reinstalling internet explorer 7 after uninstalling it. I am still getting the same error. But when I was still on the version of internet explorer 6, I didn't get the error at that time. I wonder if I have a bug with IE7. I don't know. But any other tips would be helpful.

Not seen that before, but I then I run XP Pro in Classic mode aka Win 98 - no candy floss :)

If it is a bug it's a very rare one - no mention of such a problem here as far as I recall.

Does IE crash if you go File > Exit as opposed to clicking on x to close?

Have you tried running without add-ons as I suggested?

"Candy Floss ", I like that description.

I tried the add on tip. I turned them all off and tried to recreate the problem. I couldn't get the error message to come back. Good thing right? The wierd thing is, when I turned all the add ons back on, one by one, I still couldn't get the problem to recreate itself with everything turned back on. Crazy, right?

Anyways, I don't know. I will have to continue to monitor. I appreciate your help there Pete. That was awesome. I really thing the add ons are the issue, just have to figure out which one.

    Thanks,

    Tony

Turning off add-ons is standard practice for troubleshooting in IE 7, particularly third party add-ons- at least you have made some progress and I hope it 'sticks'.

Keep monitoring and post back if the problem reoccurs.

    Candy Floss

Hey guys. Sorry it took so long to update the problem, I'm a roughneck and have little time for everything.

Spoke to the wife, looks like the problem is fixed. Still running with all of the add ons, but no problems. Will have to continue to see. Thank you for all the help. Would be racking my brain still if it wasn't for here. Thanks.
