Windows Vista event viewer disabled

    I have windows vista home premium and event viewer is not working properly. It kept giving me this message when I try to open it: "Event service log is unavailable ". I checked in Services and Windows Event Log was stopped. I tried to start it again but it gave me this message: "Error code 5: access denied ". I am already logged in as administrator on the system so why is it giving me this message, and how do i enable the Event Log?

    There seem to be a few problems that can cause this. The more simple one is that the ownership of the \Windows\System32\LogFiles folder has changed.

    How to take ownership:
    • Using Windows Explorer, browse to \Windows\System32
    • Rightclick the folder LogFiles, select Properties
    • Select the Security tab and click Advanced
    • Select the Owner tab and click Edit
    • Select Administrator under Change owner to:
    • Check Replace owner on subcontainers and objects
    • Press OK and press Continue on all error messages
    • Close all open windows, restart your PC, and the Event Log Service should restart automatically

    I do not know if this maybe related with the event viewer problem but
    I tried to run chkdsk to see if there were any errors on the computer but upon restart the chkdsk did not run and went straight to the logon screen.
    i ran sfc /scannow to check and repair any errors and it said that it could not fix autochk.exe. and listed more files that cannot be repaired. here is the list.
