    Which security suite has the most to offer (and yes... I know that some folks dislike suites... but setting that aside...)?

    I think it's not so much that people 'dislike' suites so much as they 'dislike' the 2 most annoying traits they all seem to have in common;
    • To tun smoothly they need a good amount of RAM
    • They're just not as effective as stand alone tools
    That being said you really need to first decide if you're one of those users who are 'at risk'. Meaning do you surf the dark side of the Net. Does the machine get used by more than one user. Are all the users 'security savvy''. Then you need to weigh the options offered from each to cover the areas vital to your situation.

    If none of the users ever open unknown mails then phish protection may not be so important. Usually this type of option requires accessing some database and can slow loading of pages.

    But on the other hand if people are downloading apps left and right you may tend to lean towards a suite that has spyware coverage.

    I think you see where I'm going.

    It really needs to be decided on a 'per user' basis. Or in a case of multiple users a decision of how well those users can be 'trusted'.

    I hear you.

    I'm a retiree. I'm the only one who ever uses this computer (and no... I don't surf the dark side). My wife has her own computer as well. We're networked wirelessly together.

    I'm in the process of getting a new computer but for now I'm running on 468 Mb of RAM. I don't notice that things are particularly slow (and I'm running the BitDefender Suite which I mentioned above). My wife just received a new laptop from her son to add to her desktop. It came with the Trend Micro suite and allowed two other computers to download and install the same. So, it became a question of: is it better to stick with what I currently have, or would it be better to have all three computers (which as I say are networked together) on the same suite?

    Thanks.
