One of our laptops keeps getting a Norton warning that it found, but cannot fix, a trojan virus. I believe it's called a trojan dopplar. All I can remember here at work are those two words. Of course, it could have been "dropper. "

I couldn't find "trojan dopplar" on Symantac, but I did find "trojan dropper. "

    Its location: winnt\system32\0.1988184.exe.

Ran all of the anti-virus programs we have (Norton, WebBot, the Windows downloads), but only the outdated Norton found it.

I located the file in the winnt folder, but could not manually delete it.

Anyone know what it is, what it does, and how to get rid of it?

    Help with your Norton issue

    Hello jdp,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team responding to your posting. I have not heard of or seen the particular file you mention in your posting in our database.

First, what version of Norton AntiVirus do you have installed? Also, have you run the LiveUpdate feature to ensure that you have the latest definition and program files updates?

Please reply back to this post with the answers.

In the meantime, if you are running Windows XP, I would advise you to try running the "Norton Online Security Scan" using Internet Explorer 5.5 or above.

Please click the following link to access the scanner:
    Norton Online Scan

Running this tool will hopefully detect the trojan or whatever else is infecting your system. Please post the results back to this thread so that i can look more closely at what is causing the problem and figure out the best way to go forward.

    Thank you,

    Mike
