After rebuilding my computer, using the same dvd rom drives, and installing the same OS, PowerDVD 5.0 will not play DVDs. WMV will not play DVDs. I have talked at length with the MB tech support and they assure me the problem is not hardware related. I have the latest drivers installed on my video card. (MSI Geforce8500). I've contacted Cyberlink, but no response. I have downloaded a trial version of PDVD8.0 and it works. But you have to purchase it. I have several copies of PDVD from 3.o to 5.0 which came with drives I have bought. They have all worked on my systems up to now. Phew! Can you good folks offer any help? Thanks

Is your version of PowerDVD 5.0 retail purchase or OEM (free program with DVD player)? Some companies restrict a OEM to a unique drive and or program install. You could try downloading /installing VLC, which will provide you with the required file. This will play your DVD's in VLC, not sure if PowerDVD will accept the file. WMP will use the VLC's file.

Thanks for your reply. Yes my copies of PDWD are oem and they came with several drives. What is VLC? Are these codecs?

Just went through the same problem. No player would play a DVD, then playing CD started getting weird, replaced the DVD/CD drive now everything plays. May want to check the connections making sure there' all snug.

    Good luck

All in one download/install. From Open Source, it is not a glamor queen, but is stable and provides many nice features. Install and run, most of us run default settings. Going into preferences can be a little daunting, but in most causes not required / minimal setting changes.
