    Hi abnewallo :)

That error is generally caused by an add-on.

    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=555220

Is the problem with 1 particular document or any document? Can you open a new blank document without the error? If it's 1 document, scan that document for infection.

I've found several references to disabling spell check that appeared to bypass the problem.

You could also try what I have seen cure many a problem with Word, and delete the file normal.dot
Not sure where it will be located on Vista, so do a search for it. It will be re-created the next time Word is run.

We can also have a look at things to see if there are any signs of infection on the machine. Read through this post and post a main.txt log from Deckard's System Scanner.

The problem is occurring with only one particular file.

I have McAfee and I ran it on the file and it reported no detected viruses.

I followed the instructions at the microsoft site for kbid=555220 but did not find any add-ins running so no changes were made in this step.

I have attached the main.txt file which was created when running deckard's system scanner.

    Thank you for your assistance.

You have a BHO entry that could/should be fix with HijackThis.

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

And you should uninstall Starware408, unless you specifically chose to install it. The general concensus is that it's spyware.

I doubt either of those is causing the Word problem though. Can you open the document long enough to select Help>Detect and repair? Did you try deleting normal.dot? Is the document something you can send to me so that I might analyze it?

The document is not remaining open after the error message appears.

The document is opening without any problems on other computers. I will check to see if I can share the document with you.

I have attached the file for your investigation.

This is the only file on that machine which is giving problems.

Copies of the file work fine on other machines.

I did not realise that the file did not attach in the last message. So here it is.

I see nothing wrong with that document. I'd suggest doing a repair installation of Word before going any further.

Will continue to search for other things to try too. :)
