I have an older cicero computer with Windows xp that I am cleaning up for my son. I am having a problem using operating system recovery cd ... when trying to boot from cd, I am prompted with the "Windows xp Installation Menu ". I select "3" to install windows xp with default settings ... I then receive the error message "an internal setup error has occurred, could not find a place for a swap file, setup cannot continue. Press enter to exit ".
    Any suggestions please!

    Thank you.

Try running Disk Cleanup prior to booting the recovery cd. Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup and remove all items in list to free up disk space.

This error can come from a bad cd too.

You can also boot w/ a windows 98 startup disk and delete the partitions on the drive, then run the boot cd again.
