Is there a way how to adjust power to "Shut Down" when the lid is closed on a Laptop with Windows XP Pro?.

That will depend on what the laptop supports in terms of power management ....

Control Panel > Power Options > Advanced tab - Power Buttons ......

' When I close the lid of my portable computer' > dropdown list.

On my HP the options are 'Standby' and 'Do Nothing' - yours may differ.

If the option to sut down is not offered then the answer is No :)

There is always the option to shut down using the power button ......

'When I press the power button on my computer' > drop down list.

With windows XP I only have "standby" and "do nothing" (hibernation option not enabled) as options but when I installed Windows Vista on the same laptop (Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro V2045) I also had the "Shut down" option, which worked perfectly but since now I went back to XP again I thought there might be some tweak to add the "shut down" option on closing the lid.

Anyway its not a problem, after all just a press of the "shutdown" button will do the trick, thank you for your reply and best wishes for the new year,
