    Hi,
A friend of mine has been using the Mac for years and her husband just bought her a PC running Windows Vista.

She has all her mail sorted in various folders on the Mac using Outlook Express. Now she would like to be able to import all those folders to her PC using the new Windows Program "Windows Mail. "

Can anyone help her figure out a way to get these folders to the PC.

Thank you for any help you can provide and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

    Jean

Here’s the way to do it when exporting from XP and importing to Vista. Presumably the locations are different on a Mac?

    MAIL BOXES
    1. Go to Outlook Express > Tools > Maintenance Tab > Store Folder.
    2. Make a note of its location and navigate to it. If you haven't moved it, it's here C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{1F719000-0D78-4B9A-A481-CCD006F11688}\Microsoft\Outlook Express. You may have to show 'hidden' files in Folder Options.
    3. Copy the "˜Store Folder’ and its contents to an external source.
    4. In Windows Mail go to File > Import > Messages and follow the wizard to import, say, your Inbox and Sent Items from the exported folder you made earlier.
    5. Once these are imported, a sub-folder is created for each one imported. Go to it and drag the messages to the Inbox proper. Repeat this for Sent Items. After copying you can delete the now empty sub-folders.

    CONTACTS
    1. Go to Outlook Express > File > Export > Address Book and select Comma Separated Values (CSV), select the fields you want and save it to an external device.
    2. In Windows Mail go to File > Import > Windows Contacts, select CSV and browse to the file you exported from OE.

Thank you for trying to help my friend. I forwarded her the information that you posted and she came back with this reply,
" Don't have this option in outlook express. What next? "

I guess your instructions were from converting Outlook Express on the PC to the Vista PC but we need to find out how to convert the MAC's Outlook Express to the PCs Windows Mail.

Do you have any other suggestions?

    Thank you.

The import operation for mail messages on a Vista PC needs .dbx files, e.g. Inbox and Sent Items.

Are these on the Mac or can they be created on the Mac?

    If I read this correctly

it looks like Mac OE & Windows OE aren't compatible.

The article How to Use IMAP to Move Messages Between a PC and a Macintosh in Entourage, Outlook, or Outlook Express should give some ideas to move data between them.

    Hi,

I appreciate all the help. I did forward the information you sent about the article How to Use IMAP to Move Messages Between a PC and a Macintosh in Entourage, Outlook, or Outlook Express.

I haven't heard back from my friend yet but after looking at the information, she may not be able to understand it. I know I didn't, but if I hear from her, I'll let you know.

    Jean

    Thanks again.
