Hi. Folks, In Windows Task Manager file ccSvcHst.exe appears twice in Processes under 'user name' William and System. They take up considerable CPU usage at times. I use XP Home and Norton 2008. I have been told that the file has something to do with Norton. The computer is very slow due to these files loading.
My questions are, what are the files supposed to do, and can they be safely removed? And if so, how would I go about their removal.
    Regards, William.

No, I'm afraid if you want to keep your Av running you'll need to keep that file and its related service:
    • Name: Symantec Event Manager
    • Filename: ccSvcHst.exe
    • Command: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSvcHst.exe" /h ccCommon
    • Description: Related to Symantec products.
    • File Location: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSvcHst.exe
    • Startup Type: This startup entry is installed as a Windows NT, 2000, 2003, XP, or Vista service.
    • Service Name: ccEvtMgr
    • Service Display Name: Symantec Event Manager
    • HijackThis Category: O23 Entry
    Source: Bleeping Computing

Also, in you have any further questions about processes running in task manager, Google usually gives great info 99% of the time. Hope that's been helpful.
