hello my keyboard (toshiba portege m100 laptop) is driving me crazy.
sometimes the keys dont work well eg 'm' becomes return key and some other keys dont work at all, also when this occurs i normally try to restart explorer using taskmanager but the newtask option of the taskmanager sends me to cmd.exe instead of the normal run window and when i try to type 'explorer.exe' there, ''^E^X^P^L^O^'' appears instead (note the ^^^ and the caps). help

Try holding down the "Fn" key and then press the Scroll Lock key or Fn and CAPS key to see if that changes the keyboard.

Something I would investigate is the drivers and any "helper" software connected with the keyboard. Check the drivers and software updates at the Toshiba website for your model.

I think(?) the helper software may bundle touchpad controls as well, but don't discount that drivers/software for the touchpad may be involved as well.

Even an update for the main motherboard chipset drivers could work "magic ". (Intel call them INF Updates).

Look for updated drivers and software at Toshiba and I recommend covering the chipset drivers first.

If the drivers or software seemed to be "stuck ", I would look at uninstalling the software and keyboard drivers in Safe Mode.

Malware, like a key-logging program could cause strange problems. Run a scan here:

thanks for the help. but the Fn + capslock didnt work (it doesnt have a scrollock key), i will try with updating the drivers.

i forgot to mention one other fact, when this happens, it is like someone is holding the control key when i am clicking. to explain further usually when u are clicking desktop icons the one u just click on gets highlighted and the last one u had clicked becomes un-highlighted, right. but when the keys start fooling around it just keeps highlighting away, any new icon u click also becomes highlighted. and not just the desktop but all other applications. its like auto multi-selecting. thanks for helping me out, appreciate it a lot
