Do not have scans scheduled, but once a month I get a reminder to do a full scan and protection center tells me I have a problem because I have not run the scan. Is there a way to turn off the feature that reminds me of this? Cannot seem to find an answer in google nor at the Norton site.

    Thanks

Steps to to turn off scan in Norton Protection Center

    Hi Marv6,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team responding to your post. It is possible to turn off the Protection Center Alerts. Please follow these steps to disable the alerts:

    1. Launch Norton Internet Security.

    2. Click on "Options" and then "Norton Protection Center. "

    3. Under "Alert Options," Uncheck Show AntiVirus alerts, Uncheck Show Firewall Alerts, Uncheck Show Windows Update Alerts.

    4. Click "Ok" and then close the window.

You should now no longer be prompted to run a full scan.

Please let me know if this resolved your issue by posting back to this thread.

    Thanks,
    Mike

    Michael,

Thanks for your response. My protection center options show Windows alert settings with boxes for Show Windows Automatic Update Alerts, Show Windows Internet Explorer Settings Alerts, and Show Windows User Account Control Alerts. The only one I have checked is Show Windows Internet Explorer Settings Alerts. Should I uncheck this one also? I do not see Show AntiVirus alerts and Show Firewall Alerts, only see Show Windows Update Alerts.

    Hi Marv6,

I'm sorry for the delay in responding to your post. The one question I forgot to ask you is weather or not you are running Windows XP or Windows Vista?

Secondly, you mention that the options I had asked you to check in the main Internet Security window differ from the options you see. This could have to do with your initial install of Norton Internet Security 2007.

Another option that I would like you to please try is to right-click on the Norton button on your task bar. There should be an option called either notifications, Alerts..." De-select the check box and then close the window.

If you are still having issues, please post back with as much detail as possible and I will help you get this working.

    Thank you,

    Mike

Correct instructions for Norton Internet Security Settings

    Hi Marv,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team writing back to you again.

First, I would like to apologize for giving you the instructions for Norton Internet Security 2008 , which differ from the 2007 version.

I did some more research regarding the notification options in Norton Internet Security 2007 and found that it is not possible to completely eliminate this reminder. It is highly recommended that a full system scan be performed at least once a month to ensure that your computer is not infected.

In regards to your response about how you have your alerts setup currently, all I can say is that those settings are up to you. If you are comfortable with the way they are currently set, then you may not want to make any changes. They do not affect the system scan options.

I would advise you to set a schedule for your computer to do a full scan, when you are away from your computer. If you set this schedule, I would also advise you to manually run the Norton "LiveUpdate" feature, and then set a frequent schedule for it to check for updates in the background.

First, please follow these steps to manually run LiveUpdate.

    1. Right-click on the "˜Norton" icon in your system tray, and choose "Change Notification Options.â€
    2. Next, click on the "Advanced Settings" button in the left side of the window, and then choose "Change Notification Options.â€
    3. Click on the "Norton Protection Center" tab at the top of the window if it is not already chosen. In the left side of that window, choose "Run LiveUpdate." When the process is complete, you may be prompted to Restart. Please manually run this process one more time.

To schedule automatic LiveUpdate checking, click "Start, "> "Settingsâ€-> "Control Panel," and then double-click on "Symantec LiveUpdate." Choose the schedule that works best for you and then close the window.

The final step is to set a schedule for a full system scan using the following steps.

    1. If it is not already launched, launch the main Norton window by right-clicking on the Norton icon in the system tray and choose "Open Norton Protection Center." and then click the "Norton Internet Security" tab.
    2. Click the "˜Open" button next to "Tasks and Scans," and then choose "Schedule Full System Scan."

Once you have setup your scan, then close all open Norton windows.

Let me know if this works for you by responding back to this thread.

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Mike,

Thanks for your reply. It explains why I could not find a way to turn off the reminder. I do a lot of custom scans and see little need to do frequent full scans. I also do quick scans frequently. I run live update at least weekly and when I receive a notice that my definitions are not up to date. I do not like the autoupdates in any of the programs as they are in startup and slow down my system at startup. Since I cannot turn off the reminder, I will have to run the full scan monthly.

    Again thanks for your help.

    Marvin

    Hi Marvin,

I'm glad that my instructions helped shed some light on the settings in Norton Internet Security 2007.

Again, I'm sorry if I confused the first time by giving you the instructions for the 2008 version.

    Take care,

    Mike
