    Window xp home edition,

I formatted my computer and reinstalled everything, and I still get this error message at start up.

Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selecected boot device and press a key.

Look in the BIOS for the Boot Sequence settings. Set your hard drive as the first boot item.

    Hi,
Get a replacement CMOS battery (the silver coin-like battery on the motherboard), check the motherboard manual/User Guide if you need guidance. It should be type 2032.

After that, look in the BIOS/Startup settings. It should have a listing for the HDD. To reset, you could try setting it to Off, then Save and Exit, go back again and set it back to Auto. There may be a menu "Autodetect Hard Disk Drive ", run that.

You should pull out and reseat the connectors to the HDD.

If those fail you will need to use the HDD manufacturer's utilities to check if the HDD may be failing, you will find them at the manufacturer's website. HDD utilities may be supplied with the computer if it is a Dell, HP, Compaq, etc.

    Matt
