have been looking a little bit on wireless routers and came across a new one to me made by a chinese company tp-link. reviews are quite good so an easy question if anyone has knowledge of them is are they that good ??? say compared to a linksys wrt54gl. newegg has this one TP-LINK TL-WR642G and its a 108mbps vs links 54gl and the tp is cheaper. have a home client going wireless as soon as the lap comes in which dell is way the heck late on this one over 3 weeks to get so i am upset with dell.

    anyway any thoughts.

I have a TP Link wired 4 port router and it has been going great for almost 12 month once I had my IP sorted out.

what ya mean by sorting out your ip. are you using dhcp or static ???

anyone have experience on the wireless side of things ??? distance, stability, etc ??? dont really want to experiment to much so if not considerably better than the linksys wrt54gl then probably not worth it.

    108mbps
That's a superG wifi (aka mimo).
Remember, 108 mb/sec will never be attained, more likely about half of that IF your wifi adapter is superG too. And even if your adapepter is superG, as soon as a second client connects that is not a superG then the AP will auto switch to 54mb/sec G mode or 11 mb/sec B mode. For the AP to stay at superG all clients must be superG.

All in all the device will work well for what you are using it for. But instead of getting a new device, try out the open-wrt firmware on your wrt54g, which will improve its performance.

guess i'll stick with the linksys seeing as i know it well. had nothing but problems with the wrt54g even after the firmware update. was dropping connections a dozen times a day. clients had problems also. finally got a replacement from linksys but had problems with that one to. went to the
wrt54gs and gl and maybe once every 3 weeks it drops so it seems more stable than the wrt54g.

I've had my Linksys wrt54 for a few years. I never had problems with it until I did a few firmware upgrades. I must have called Linksys tech support 8 or 9 times over the next few months. Out of deperation I finally put the original firmware back in. (1.0.1.0)

The performance has be flawless ever since. I have one desktop and two laptops.

    Thats just my personal experience.
