HP All in One Software won't load in 98SE or XP.

Brief update:

I believe that Pepse now has the last free version of RegCleaner and we're all pulling for more news when he gets around to using it.

 

Well, I got around to using it, but being that her computer is an HP with and HP 825C printer and an HP Photosmart digital camera I am not sure what is removable and what is not. I see with RegCleaner I can save to txt, so I could put it up here if anybody wants to take a shot at it.

OK, first the caution - This is what I would remove. As long as RegCleaner is installed, you can undo what I am recommending. You may also want to create a system restore point before performing this action. Note: This is done at your own risk. To be safe, you could google every entry for further information.

I'd disconnect the printer and then yank the following:

After removing these, reboot with no printer connected. Then try your installation with no printer connected. If prompted to connect your all in one, connect it at that point. Good Luck.

You also have some other stuff you should get rid of but you should go to the removing Spyware forum and post a HiJack This log and follow Dave or Geri's advice.



edit: I'm making a couple of assumptions in the above recommendation. First, you do not have a second HP printer attached to that machine. Second, you are not trying to set this printer up as a network printer. And third, your HP PhotoSmart, Share to Web, Digital Imaging and Memories software was part of the failed software installation and have been removed using add/remove programs - this goes for all parts of your all in one printer software.

 

Well, here's what happened when I told my wife she had spyware/malware/adware in her computer. She re-installed the HP software and cleaned it up. No, this really won't cure her problems with the possibility of future xxxware probs but that's the way she is.

So, I decided to install it on my XP hard drive. Well, it installed the drivers and nothing else. I figured that was because I attempted to install this before. So, I went to add/remove and eliminated everything HP (I build my own computers), and then installed Regcleaner and removed everything possible that relates to HP. Then the HP all-in-one loaded good. Then I was able to install my HP camera and HP Photosmart printer. So, everything is fine on my end.

I won't pretend to understand what you just wrote and am not sure when or how this became a two machine problem but I'm glad to learn that you now have things working to your satisfaction. As to your wife's situation in particular - its a two word fix and always will be - Yes Dear.

 

If you re-read my first post I do mention that I also tried to install it in my XP hard drive and it raised havoc with my system. But that I was mainly trying to get it to work in my wife's 98SE computer. So, anyway, it is working good in my XP hard drive so I am happy with it. Thanks for the help.
