nickynacky - Welcome to the Board :)

Strange time scale - bought in 2003 - set up in 2003?? - discovered the pirated install in 200? - loaded XP home when??

You will need to fill out detail as to how you managed to install XP Home on a computer running XP Pro - I think I know what you did, but I want to hear it from you please.

Ok I'm a novice at this but like I said I was having problems and someone I did not know took it home and it came back with a fake ex pro and then he was gone and I had not one to ask. So when I found my cd from my stuff I re installed my home edition and just assumed everything would be all better. It has just sat here for years with the xp pro the only one I can use and then I found this site. This is not an excuse but I am a senior!!

A lot of seniors around here, myself included :)

I'm guessing you made a parallel install of XP Home .....

When you fire up the computer do you get a menu (white text on black screen) asking which Windows - Pro or Home you wish to start?

If you are able to boot into XP Home you will have to install all your software into that system - you cannot copy it across from the XP Pro installation.

As for your data you should be able to see that and access it if it is in Folders that you created.

The easiest way might be to call Comcast (1-800-266-2278) and ask them.

Another possible alternative is to boot into your XP Pro installation and look up your Comcast network settings, write them all down on paper, and then boot into your XP Home installation, create a new network connection, and input the same information.

    • Network settings may be accessed via Control Panel > Network Connections.
    • Right-click on your Comcast network name and select Properties.
    • Go through all the tabs and all Settings/Properties buttons in the Comcast Properties window and write the information down.

Have you tried using the New Connection Wizard? If you're on cable, that's all you should need unless there's something like a proxy server in the mix. Answer a couple questions and it should work. There's nothing in the wizard that you need your ISP for. It's always worked for me.

    Start>All Programs>Accessories>Communications>New Connection Wizard.
