Uninstall all of those Java components. Download and install the latest version from here.

I'm not at all familiar with the Sunbelt firewall, so I'll have to do some research to be of any help with it. First thought would be to look at the programs that have been granted access, which are blocked, etc. Sometimes just removing the program from the firewall console will cause it to prompt you again, allowing you to re-confirm access. I've also seen it happen where programs with allowed access are somehow corrupted within the console so removing it's entry will fix the issue as well.

I can't not get java to install, the yellow bar comes up to install activex control then I get. I have saved it to desktop and tried to run but nothing happens.
" We encountered an issue while trying to automatically install Java software onto your machine.

If you encounter an error, check the top of the browser (see image above) for a yellow bar that reads "This site might require the following ActiveX control: J2SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 3 from 'Sun Microsystems, Inc.'. Click here to install..." Click the yellow bar and choose "Install ActiveX Control..." to allow installation to proceed. "

The good news is that windows update is working now!!

Great news on Windows Update! What steps did you take to resolve that issue?

Did you try with the firewall turned off? Or, did the firewall prompt you to allow the Windows Installer to access the internet? Maybe remove the Windows Installer (msiexec.exe) from the allowed programs list?

After choosing to install the ActiveX control, were you ever presented with the Java Setup - Welcome dialog that prompts you to Accept the license agreement?

I set firewall to ask for everything(and it is). With Java I never get to the dialog box. The yellow tab comes down to accept activex control then firewall ask several times(i've tried with firewall off still nothing) the I get the message that there was a problem. In contral panel there is a Java logo when I click it I get "The system cannot find the file specified. C:\program files\java\jre1.6.0_01\bin\javacpl.exe "

And if I read correctly you have the offline installation file on your desktop but nothing happens when you try to run it?

Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune and save it to your Desktop.
    • Double click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    • Check the boxes to the left of:

      • Windows Temp
      • Current User Temp
      • All Users Temp
      • Temporary Internet Files
      • Prefetch
      • Java Cache
      • Recycle bin

    • The rest are optional - if you want it to remove everything check "Select All ".
    • Finally, click Empty Selected. When you get the "Done Cleaning" message, click OK then exit.
    Reboot

Lets see if a bit of registry cleaning will clear up this issue. Download a trial version of TuneUp Utilities and install it. Start the program and click Clean Up & Repair. Select TuneUp Registry Cleaner. Run the Complete scan then click Show Errors. You can view the details of what all it finds and clean selectively or just click Start Cleaning. My recommendation is to just clean. When complete, check it again and cleanup any leftovers. Reboot and try the installation again. Should any problems arise after the registry cleaning, you can restore the backups created and reboot.

Just curious, are you still experiencing the erratic behavior?

Do you have another mouse you could try for a while?

What is the size of the Java file you have? Should be 13.9 MB

Right click the file and select properties. Is there an option to Unblock it? Do so and try running again.

You aren't having trouble running any other exe files are ya? Please install the Windows Installer 3.1 (just to make sure) and try Java installer again.

Highlight and copy the all of the bolded text below.

    dir /s "%programfiles%\Java "> "%userprofile%\desktop\dir.txt "
    start notepad "%userprofile%\desktop\dir.txt "
    cls
    exit
    cls

Click Start>Run and type cmd then hit enter to open a command window. Right click and paste the copied text into the command window. It should open dir.txt

Post the contents of dir.txt if anything is present.

    Hi shammie,

Just wanted to let you know that I haven't forgotten about you, I'm just at a loss for what else to try at the moment. I will continue to research it and suggest something asap.

Were you able to get another mouse to try? Still having the erratic behavior?

May as well give this a shot

Highlight and copy the bolded text below.

    msiexec.exe /unregister
    regsvr32 /u /s C:\Windows\System32\msi.dll
    regsvr32 /u /s C:\Windows\System32\msihnd.dll
    ren C:\Windows\System32\msi.dll msi.old
    ren C:\Windows\System32\msiexec.exe msiexec.old
    ren C:\Windows\System32\msihnd.dll msihnd.old
    exit
    cls

Click Start>Run and type cmd then hit enter to open a command window. Right click and paste the text. The command window should close on it's own.

Now, do you still have the Windows Installer 3.1 file? If so, install it, otherwise re-download and install it.

When done, reboot and try running the Java offline installation file again.
