xp defrag is the bane of my existence...

Hello... does anyone have any way of improving the performance of defrag. My system is 23% fragmented and I just used the defrag! I've got XP Home edition and an 18.6GB HDD.
After speaking with a few friends it seems that I'm not the only one frustrated by this aspect of XP.

Using O&O Derfag now, but I never had any problems with XP's prior to that. It may be a bug in a third-party app. My guess would be Norton.

 

Another reasom could be that there are several files that can not be defragmented - browse this article from Microsoft Knowledge base:
