Hi there, I'm not entirely sure if this is a hardware or software problem. All I know is that after I have been using my computer a while, certain keyboard characters start coming out as garbage.

For instance, the { and } keys will do nothing on the first keypress, and spit out a combination of characters (a space and quotation marks) on the second keypress. The ' will come out as a `, The " will also do something strange. Recently the ? came out as a capital E with an accent. The only way I know how to fix this problem is to either close and reload the program where it's happening, or reboot my computer. Most often this happens in Visual Studio 2005 in Windows XP, but it has also started happening on my new laptop with Windows Vista.

If anyone has encountered this problem themselves, and knows how to solve it, I would really appreciate it (my sanity will thank you)!

    Hi,

I would expect it to be a problem with the language setting of the keyboard. You can change the setting in Start -> Control Panel -> Regional (and Language) Options. For example, I have a keyboard setting for En (Aust).

The other area might be the drivers for the keyboard. You might need to check if it uses the "standard" setting of 101/102 keys or needs to be set as a special layout. These are under the Keyboard icon in Control Panel.
