    Hello,
My speaker icon is missing from the taskbar - I am running vista home premium .
When I go into the taskbar and open menu properties in the notification area I can't check the volume box. Anyone know how I can get the icon back please?

    Hi,
Thank for your prompt reply. and for solving my problem. I searched regedit for "IconStreams" and "PastIconStreams" (as advised from the link you provided)removed them and restarted, then I was able to check boxes for volume , network, and power . thanks again,

    Best regards,

    mario :)

I noticed that the icons (sound, network and power) dissappeared again, although I used the same procedure as before to bring them back, I would like to know what is causing this if possible. Thank you.

It's really hard to say why....
Have you scanned your computer for viruses, malwares, et., lately?
