According to some sites it's trojan, a malware, or a legitimate download accellerator.... I'm confused.

I went to uninstall it (to be safe) but there's no listing in "add/Delete" in control panel, and clicking on the "unwise" uninstaller simply brings up a box looking for "INSTALL.LOG" (all caps)

If it's not pernicious, I may as well leave it alone (can;t remember d/l it or ever using it) but if it's a nasty, how do I get rid of it... kill it in HijackThis, delete the program folder in c:/programs and restart?

Hello vlmg and welcome to the Board,

    It's a download accelerator:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FlashGet

    What is in the folder?

Do make sure that in IE the BHO is either gone or inactive. IE tools > manage > Add-ons.

Flashgot is Mozilla (Firefox, Mozilla, Seamonkey, or Thunderbird) add-on. Safe.

Should have written disabled - if not, disable the Flashget BHO.

Thanks, all.... since it's a Mozilla plug-in (add-on) I think I'll leave it as it is, unless someone else has a different opinion?

Flashget isn't the Mozilla plug in, and if you do have Flashgot, why didn't you write Flashgot in the title? They're two different things as the Wikipedia article points out.
