Well I thought my PC problems were solved with this thread.
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?p=375744#post375744

To sum it up, I had a blue screen error so I had to remove my RAM.
Then I had a bad system files and had to use the repair disk for windows vista.

It was working well for about 1 hour then I started to get random freezes. Say I open Itunes to play music (just an examples does it with all programs), after about 1 song the PC will freeze and I will be forced to reboot or sometimes after abut a miniature it fixes it self until the next jam. I noticed that when the freezing occurs that my hard drive light it goes on solid, and my mouse still works. I can click the start button but once it opens, it just freezes there. CLT ALT DEL just takes everything to a black screen with a white cursor. (Like it was trying to load the options)

I made the PC back in February 07.

    Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 3.40GHz (2 CPUs), ~3.4GHz

    Memory: 2046MB RAM (2GB)

    Hard Drive: 320 GB

Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS

    Monitor: ViewSonic VA903 Series

Sound Card: Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)

    Keyboard: USB Root Hub

    Mouse: USB Root Hub

    Operating System: Windows Vista™ Ultimate (6.0, Build 6000) (6000.vista_rtm.061101-2205)

    Power Supply: 600 Watt

I ran this http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp to see if my RAM is bad again but its ok according to that.

It’s hard to back stuff up because if I try to burn it to a disk, it freezes mid-point and I have to restart. I would post a dump log but I’m not getting any formal errors.

Is it the hard drive lagging or something because the HDD light goes solid? I did a defrag last night.

If it’s the HDD, why does the mouse not freeze?

Is it Windows Vista and do I need to use the repair disk even though I’m not getting any corrupt file info?

    Motherboard failing???

Is there any programs you want me to run to test the HDD? I think there is something like chkdsk? How do I run that in vista? With Start button + R?

    Thanks for reading.

    P.S I REALLY don’t want to reformat…

EDIT: i posed this as i was running the program to test the ram. The program (in its advanced test) began to lag on test 7

I suggest you remove 1 stick of RAM - assuming you have 2 x 1 Gb and run that stick in each of the slots and check for freezes. Repeat with the other stick. This checks out the individual modules and slots.

    Hi,

Does the Seagate Tools have an option to build a boot CD? (I take it you are running it in Windows.)

You can run chkdsk by going to Computer and right-clicking on the drive -> Properties, select the Tools tab and run Error Checking. Put a check in both the boxes for "Automatically..." and "Check for errors... ". Go back and run it for any other drives/partitions.
It will need to do a restart for the Windows partition. It may take some time depending on the amount of data, etc.

    Matt
