    I have a long list of apps in the msconfig startup list. Most have had the box UNCHECKED to keep them from starting up. How can I remove those from the list to make the list appear simpler.

    :confused: :confused:

    Depends on what these apps are.

    Backup your registry first and then navigate to

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
    CurrentVersion\Run

    You will have many links here for programs that are both running and those that you have stopped from running.

    Backup the key first before you xxxx so that if something happens, you can restore it.

    Three places you should check. You can right-click on any registry keys and then Click File, Export if you want to save them. You can then put them back by clicking the resulting .reg file if you want to put it back.

    Run--> regedt32
    Navigate to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

    and Start--> Programs--> Startup.

    These are various apps but all of them are unchecked so I must assume they have not been loaded at startup so therefore, I know I dont want them

    If I remove mention of them in the registry, will not not only keep them from running/loading but also remove them from that overpopulated list

    Yes. If you right-click and delete them from the Run sections of the registry, they will also be removed from the msconfig list.
