I have a Compac Presario Sr192ONX and I was watching a video online and it froze so I had to turn off the computer improperly (Power button) and now Windows will not launch no matter what I do.

Any advice, I am using my backup computer.

It sounds like a hardware issue.

how far does the machine get? does it start loading Windows? does it just sit at BIOS and beep at you?

santangelo - Welcome to the Board :)

Powering down the computer on the power button should not damage the computer.

When you attempt to boot the computer do the power light, HD light and Optical drive lights come on. Is there any sound of activity from the computer - hard drive spinning up - fans running - can you open/close the optical drive(s)?. You may have to look inside the case to check out some of these.

Have you tried starting in Safe Mode?

Do you have access to a retail XP install CD to access Recovery Console?

Windows just wont start...It goes to a screen that gives me 5 options

    Safe Mode

    Safe mode with Networking

    Safe mode with command prompt

Last known good configuration (your most recent settings that worked)

    Start windows normally

**None of the above options would get windows started**
