    Hi,

My girlfriend has a Dell Inspiron 2200 notebook (with XP) and a HP Photosmart 7600 inkjet printer. The Dell has an Intel Pro/Wireless 2915ABG wireless internal card I believe.

I would like to set her up so she can print wirelessly to the printer via 802.11. Anyone have any experience wirg the devices below? The first on ebay is only about $27 bucks.

I am trying to use the internal wireless card instead of a plug-in USB transceiver that needs to be plugged into to a USB port on the Dell. Any thoughts, suggetions or advice?

    Thanks,
    Jeff

Thanks Matt. Actually I see it is a 7660. Doing some research I discovered the Apple AirPort Express will also work with the 7660 (as long as it has driver versioin 2.7). It is a more expencive option, but it would also let her play her iTunes music wirelessly thru her stereo or a set of powered speakers. humm, will have to do more reading here. I was trying to this for $30 bucks or so, but that StarTech item on ebay above looks like it has been discontinued by StarTech and I cannot confirm it will work anyway. Anyway, thanks for the help...

    When this page
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c00035369

and other pages I see refer to "driver version 2.7" what are they talking about? The printer driver in XP (how would I check that)? If I look at the Properties of the printer in the Control Panels, and click the About tab it says 2.245.10.

    But on this page http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...cc=us&dlc=en&product=305364&dest_page=product
......it says the latest "Software & Driver" is 5.3.....why is this so complicated????

Or are they refering to the firmware version in the printer? In this case a HP 7660.

    Help??
    Jeff

I can only see driver version 2.3.7 for Mac OS X and OS 9, not relating to Windows or XP.

Are you certain 2.7 relates to a Windows XP driver?

You will be doing "cross-platform" three times, HP -> Apple -> Windows.

Apple will not offer support for Windows and visa-versa. You could be opening a can of worms unless you are certain all is compatible...then again it might work perfectly (you might be the beta tester :D).

The 5.3 version will be the combination of drivers and software (for Windows). The actual driver of the printer will probably be a different "version" to the combination.

I would not like crossing so many platforms, that's why I was excited when I saw the 7660 (actually) was fully tested with the D-link printer server.

If you can document the information you could try sending it to HP and asking if it should work. HP printer support have been been high in my estimation in the past, but don't be disappointed if you get "we cannot guarantee... ". Try Apple support?

    Matt
