In my C:/Windows folder I find a number of folders such as
    AuBackup
    AULog
    AUTemp
    AUTEMP2
I am wild guessing that they are Automatic Update realated.

The latest files in anyone of them seems to be 11/11/2005
The oldest seems to be way back in 1999.
They are taking up considerablel space and I would like to clean them out if it can be done saftely.
I was also entertaining the idea of moving them to another partition just to see what happend.
But right now I am thinking that due to the dates they maybe useless and maybe even troublesome if used.

    Hi BB

Not present on my current install of XP Pro SP2.

They may be related to AUdio rather than updates. My approach would be to rename them ...OLD - if no effect on the computer, dump them :)

Possibly related to Trend Micro PC-cillin.

Right click the file, select properties and select the Version tab. See what company these files originated from.

I've got those folders on mine. In my case, they are, as Whiskeyman supected, related to PC-cillin. In the log folder there's a text file in which the contents indicate this.

I had PC-cillin for a short while when I first built this puter. I got a trial version of it with a hard drive I bought. Dumped it after the trial ran out in favor of Etrust.

Have a look at the text file (if there is one) in the logs folder BillyBob. Mine has several links to their update sight in it. If that's what yours is too and if you don't use PC-cillin, I see no reason why you'd need to keep them.

    Thank you guys.

So far everything looks like they are related to PC-cillen.

I just checked a couple of them and saw that name.

But they will remain inplace for a few days until I can get rested from XMAS shopping and more important things such as Nancys Doctor appointments for her shoulder.

    But just to double check.
Seeing as how they seem to be related something that I do not have they can be scraped.
Oh BTW. A couple of them showed as being related to an UNKNOWN Program.

    Thanks again for the help

    Headed for my recliner.
    See Y'all later.

    Discription-Trend Micro Damage Cleanup engine.
    Company--TM

Using RegSeeker I found two referencws to Trend Micro it the registry. But no path to anywhere,
    No PC-Cillin found at all.

So. Unless I read otherwise I believe those file are ready to hit the road as soon as I can get to it. But more important things to do first.

My question is why would you want to get rid of them? Are they taking up too much space? If they're virus free and not taking up much disk space, it might be smarter to keep it.

    Ist reread my original post.
    2nd to answer your question.
A PC is just like a home. Every once in a while it needs a good HOUSE CLEANING to get rid of the useless trash. Making more room for the usefull stuff.

And Yes. I do need the disk sapce.
