I own xp pro sp2 retail box and I have had this installed for several years. I recently had to rebuild my system as my old one was severly outdated. I had some hardware issues and had to re-format and re-install the OS twice. I have noticed that each time I did this, a slightly different version of the OS would install. One had the welcome screen and a different shutdown screen which I like. The other did not. This semmed to happen randomly. My question is that I will most likley have to reformat once again and reinstall the OS. Is there a way I can select the version? Thanks

Hmmmm. How long to you look at these screens:eek: (just kidding)

Can't say that I've heard of this....Did you do a full install each time before installing?

    Xppro versions?

I studied the INSTALL OS from the install CD. Nowhere could I find an option to select versions. This is weird.....

I can't say for sure what you did but for the welcome screen, I know that somewhere during the installation you are given the option to use the welcome screen or don't use it. You may have to do a custom install in order to get that option, I don't remember for sure. My guess is it's something like that that's caused the differences.

    Solved It!!!

Thanks for your help... Solved the problem. If you have a MSI brand motherboard and installed a supplied utility "LOCKBOX ", then a .dll file been disabled. That file is needed for USER ACCOUNT welcome logon and fast switching. Uninstalling the LOCKBOX program solved the issue. ;)
