i've got an external harddrive(maxtor) which i recently misplaced the power adapter, now in an attempt to use the hard drive i experimented with any power adapter that would fit into its input, but none worked; either the led would not come on or it just wouldnt be recognized by my computer...now after a couple of months i've found the correct power adapter but the led on the hard drive just blinks and its still not detected by the computer.....is there any way to retrieve the info on that hard drive or am i just scr&wed....

Do you have another pc you can test it on?

Is the drive built into the case? If not, you could add it as an internal drive.

On some externals you buy a hard drive and a case and install em together.

Guessing you can one that was already fixed up...

There's a chance that your experimentations fried the circuts. You might look in see if the drive can come out of the case. If so, it could then be hooked up as an internal drive.

Some bold and dventurous people have been successful by finding an "Identical" drive and swapping out the circut board. Your mileage may vary;)
