HiJack This Log - Friend's PC

    Hi,

    A friend of mine told me that somehow someone had gotten a hold of his bank account # and password and proceeded to withdraw $700 of his money. When I went to help him move a few weeks ago, I updated and ran Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D. When I looked at the results of the Spybot scan, I noticed one of the entries was a .exe file. I had Spybot fix the problem and noticed that after it deleted it, the number of processes went down from 36 to 35.

    Long story short, I've updated Spybot and Ad-Aware and ran them again tonight, and they didn't find anything. I want someone to look at the HiJack this log and see if there is anything that shouldn't be on his computer.

    Also, I don't want to start another thread just for a simple answer, but he had Norton AV 2002 which he hasn't updated in 3 1/2 years. Should he spend the money and update 2002 or go buy 2007 and install that?

    1. Print this post out, since you won't have an access to it, at some point.

    2. Close all windows.

    2a. Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel

    * Double click on Add/Remove Programs

    * Find "My Web Search" in the list of installed programs and click on Change/Remove to uninstall it.
    You may also want to uninstall any of the following items associated with FunWebProducts (if exist):

    - My Web Search (Smiley Central or FWP product as applicable)
    - My Way Speedbar (Smiley Central or other FWP as applicable)
    - My Way Speedbar (AOL and Yahoo Messengers) (beta users only)
    - My Way Speedbar (Outlook, Outlook Express, and IncrediMail)
    - Search Assistant - My Way

    * I'd also recommend uninstalling MarketBrowser, which "Privacy Policy" (http://www.marketbrowser.com/privacy.asp?limitted=yes) has some privacy issues.

    * Reboot your Computer and run HijackThis

    4. Click on "Fix It" button.

    5. Restart your computer in Safe Mode (keep tapping F8 key, when your computer starts)

    6. Open Windows Explorer. Go Tools>Folder Options>View tab, put a checkmark next to "Show hidden files, and folders ".

    7. Delete following folders (if they still exist):

    - WildTangent, Save, MarketBrowser, PartyPoker, from C:\Program Files

    8. Turn off System Restore:

    - Windows XP:
    1. Click Start.
    2. Right-click the My Computer icon, and then click Properties.
    3. Click the System Restore tab.
    4. Check "Turn off System Restore ".
    5. Click Apply.
    6. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click Yes to do this.
    7. Click OK.

    9. Restart in Normal Mode.

    10. Turn System Restore on.

    11. Run HJT again, and post back its log back here.

    - free real-time antimalware a-squared: http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/

    2. Uninstall out-of-date Norton using Norton Removal Tool:

    3. Run CCleaner: http://www.ccleaner.com/ to remove any Norton leftovers, and other garbage from your computer.

    4. Install Comodo, AVG, and a-squared

    5. Update your Java to version 1_6_3: http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp

    6. Install Service Pack 2: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx

    7. Post back with positive results...LOL
