I recently downloaded and installed Mailwasher with no apparent abberations, but when I tried to
run the program, I received the following mssg:
"mailwasher.exe linked to missing export wininet.dll:InternetGetConnectedState" and a
second mssg which stated: "a device attached to
the system is not functioning. "

    I am using Win95 with ample HD space & RAM;
I use Netscape Communicator as my browser, which
I suspect is the culprit...I have removed nearly
every vestige of MSIE from my system, but I do
    have a Wininet.dll file within my \windows\
    system folder (version 4.70.1215).

Question: does mailwasher require the presence of
MSIE or some of its files to operate properly,
or is my problem other than this?

    Regards,

    Jim Talon

    Thank you, Lily.

I am currently pursuing that route. As a matter
of fact, I was instructed to download the
    Wininet.dll file (ver 6.00.2600.0000) from
www.dll-files.com and place it in my \windows\system folder, overwriting the
    original.

With that having been done, I re-installed said
software and received this error message:

    "Missing File: CRYPT32.dll "

I am now awaiting a response from Mailwasher
for the next suggested step.

Hopefully, during the interim, other suggestions
    will be forthcoming.

BTW, does anyone know the purpose of the
    CRYPT32.dll file? Just curious...

    Regards,

In summary, I was instructed by Mailwasher to
write to the \windows\system folder yet another
DLL (SHLWAPI.DLL), which again led to the
    following error message:

    "Missing File: CRYPT32.DLL "

Afterwards, the help desk at Mailwasher finally
acknowledged that Mailwasher cannot be run on
a system without Microsoft Internet Explorer
    or its components installed.

I had encountered a similar problem with a
program entitled "Weatherbug," which also could
not be run without MSIE, and the company which
    distributes Weatherbug freely acknowledged that
they had opted to write exclusively for Microsoft
to ensure that they would remain a viable
    presence.

Thus, if anyone else should encounter the problem
inherent in this thread, this will most probably
    be your thorn.
    :( :(

I appreciate the opportunity to post such a problem in hopes of others offering advice/
comments, and I especially appreciate those
who actually responded for having done so.
    Thank you.

    Regards,
