On my wife's computer, I created an account for myself. I have an old Excite.com email account that I put into the homepage. While my wife was have Java issues (Her pogo.com account wouldn't work. The games kept telling her she had a Java Runtime error.) I noticed that after I tried reinstalling Java that my Homepage would just get stuck on a blank page.

I changed home pages and it worked fine. But if I try to go to anything related to excite.com in the address bar, it hangs up on whatever it currently on.

Today I tried pinging excite.com. It pinged fine. I noticed the ip address that command prompt used to ping excite.com. Typed that into the address bar. Came up fine. Tried to sign in from there, and it just gets hung up like before.

I talked to a friend of mine who believes that what might have happened is that a virus or the like might have captured excite.com from my homepage option and will try to redirect me anytime excite.com comes up in the address bar. But he believes that the redirect site is now taken down and that's why I get a blank page.

My Java Issues continue even after I have removed Java and reinstalled it. I works fine until I restart the computer, then I have the issues again.

    Please help.

    Hi DrBaloo
    Welcome to Windowsbbs :)

    Try This.

    Open up SpyBot S/D
Click on Mode at the top, select Advanced Mode,
    Click on Settings
    Click on Ignore Products
Scroll down untill you see Excite and check the box.
    Close SpyBot S/D

Go to Excite now and see if it will work.

    Try this for your Java

    • Go back into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon.
    • On the general tab, at the bottom it has "temporary internet files "
    • Click the settings button. Then the Delete files button.
    • There are two options in the window to clear the cache - Leave both Checked
      (Some versions have three)

      • Applications and Applets
        Trace and Log files
    • Click OK
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
    • Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.

    Let me know.

    Geri

That didn't work. Sorry. I'm in the process of backing up documents and music. I may just break down and do a factory reset.

    Hi DrBaloo
I had a excite web page set up at one time also, back when I had my old windows 98 machine, when I went to windows XP I could no longer access the page.
Come to find out that excite wants you to "except ALL cookies" so their third party venders (all the add banners and such) could drop their cookies onto your machine.

Do you use SpywareBlaster? or IESPYAD?
    They also block excite.
I would recommend that you set up another site for your wife, like Yahoo or such.
Excite should not make a person lower their security "in any way" just to be able to log into their site.

As for Java, This Java\jre1.6.0_03 is the newest version and pogo "may" be having a proplem with it.
See here for some possible solutions.

I "fixed" half of my problems by going to a earlier system restore. Excite.com works fine now. Tried to back it to the last time I could remember using excite.com properly. I know for sure that I hadn't changed security settings since then. So I am still stumped as to what happened. (No on both of those spyware tools.) But it now works. Besides, I don't want to leave my excite.com account. I've had it since '96.

I'm not one of those people that like to create new accounts or email addresses every 2 weeks. (Note: My younger cousin used to do that all the time. Peeved me off to no end. Could never get a hold of her.)

I will try the Java Solutions on their page. I thought I had read everything that they put out about Java on their help pages. Guess I missed that one you linked.

Here's hoping it works. Thanks for your help Geri.

This is an error that I get the second time I try to enter a pogo game. Other Java Fueled sites are not working as well.

"Several Java Virtual machines running in the same process caused an error. "

Tried everything they suggested on Pogo's help pages. Tried to see if it was an issue with IE7. Their suggestions for resolving those issues didn't seem to help.

    Hi DrBaloo
Let me see a uninstall list. Here's how.

To get an Uninstall List from HijackThis:
    • Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
    • Click "Open Uninstall Manager "
    • Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
    • Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

    Thanks
    Geri

    New Development...

I had to reinstall Spybot S&D. After doing so I lost my ability to log on to excite.com. So I found the true culprit, but I still don't know how to fix it. I will be trying to remove Spybot inorder to find out if that helps anything.

So I don't know if this leads you guys to any new realizations.

    Hi DrBaloo

SpyBot could very well be blocking excite. It's just not the site it use to be, it is known for spying now a days.

    Try this for your Java.

    Click start > control panel
    Double click the Java Icon
    Click on the Java tab
In the Java Applet Runtime Settings Click View
Double click in the box under Java Runtime Parameters
    Type in this. Xmx500m
    Click OK
Close the Java window. Restart IE
Go to Pogo and see if that helped.

    Let me know.

I found a work around. My wife's account is the only one with the issues. We logged on with my account and had no issues whatsoever. So my idea is to copy her files and create a new account for her.

I also found this error coming up when I close IE window after getting a Java failure.

The Instruction at "0x0401019a" referenced memory at "0x715185c4â€. The memory could not be "writtenâ€.
Click on OK to terminate the program.

… at "0xffffffffâ€. The memory could not be "readâ€.

Other times I get this message the first quoted spot is the same, the second seems to change.

I also found when trying to do the last instructions, there were 2 Java Runtimes in the Applet settings. 6.3 and 5.6. But I could not remove 5.6 in Add/Remove Programs. It was as if it didn't exist. So I took and reinstalled 5.6 from Java's Archive site, and uninstalled it from Add/Remove Programs. Didn't show up in Java Applet Runtime Settings afterwards.

The last instructions didn't seem to help. I went to both Windows Accounts added the line to Java, and nothing helped my wife's account.

So should I try something anything else or plunge forward with creating a new Windows account for her?

    Hi DrBaloo
That's what I was hoping to find in add/remove.

I'll see what I can find on that error.

I would if you think it will work.

Go back into Java and delete those Runtime Parameters.
