I have been searching for a solution to putting my e-mail accounts in Thunderbird, with no success. I have seen suggestions for folderpane tools, but the download direct from its source seems incomplete.

Anyone know how to do this effectively? I'm willing to mess with prefs files and such, and can follow directions exactly.

The Thunderbird staff ought to have "move up" and "move down" buttons for each account in the Tools Account Settings menu. This should be fairly easy and is about the only complaint I have about Thunderbird.

I have many e-mail accounts and would like to just change their ordering at will, beyond just which account is the default.

    XP SP2, Thunderbird 2.0.0.9 (20071031).

We use eight accounts, but I, rarely have had a need to change the order. May be that's why there is no one-click way. You may find this hint useful .
I have had, also, on occasion, the need to change the default account. To do this, go to the account settings, select the new account which you want default. And, click, "Set as default ". You will need to restart TB for the changes to take effect. When you reopen the program the newly made default account will be on top of the list.

    Thanks for the tip.

I know about changing the default account - that's easy enough, but it's ordering the *REST* of them that seems like it would be oh so simple to do within Thunderbird itself. I realize most people only have one or two accounts, but the longer I'm online, the more I try to insulate myself from the deluge of spam by breaking everything up into smaller (and more numerous) accounts.

This should do the trick, and I can just move some accounts up and others down. Should only take me a minute.

    Thanks!

    Welcome to the Forum, PressedPenney!

This extension is exactly what you need: Folderpane Tools

It allows you to move the Mail Accounts up or down, in the order of your choice.

    Enjoy!

Did you check my link? I think that it was pretty clear.

However, I installed the Folderpane add-on, and it does exactly what you want.

Okay, I got the folderpane tools from the mozilla site in your link. That is in fact working. Thank you.

I found a version at a different site (supposedly their home site) and it did not work at all - no xpi file, just a zip without the correct stuff in it.

I had tried to use the original folderpane tools that I had downloaded - it didn't work - but at least I was on the right track!

Thanks for all your responses. TBird is working pretty well for me now.
