I have tried several times to add/remove a program called MyCd 2.0. This is the message it gives me:

Unable to locate the installation log file'C:\Progra~\HPCD-W~1\DeIsL1.isu'.

How can I get rid of this program in order for me to install another one but cannot because it tells me that this one has to be uninstalled first? I hope I don't sound confusing.

    Thanks,
    Lucy

    hi lucy,

this message normally appears when you delete a program without uninstalling.

I do not know how familiar you are with the registry. If you are not very familiar, I would first advice you to perform a back up before getting on to the registry.

Select Run- Regedit- select HKEY-LOCAL MACHINE. Scroll till you find the program name listed. Rt. click and delete it.
    This should solve your problem.

Let us know if it did.

    thanks

You don't say whether you are using XP Pro or XP Home. I don't know about XP Home, but the retail XP Pro CD includes Windows XP Support Tools which are not installed by default. They are in a separate folder. If the program you are having trouble with was installed using Windows Installer (files have a .msi extension), the msicuu.exe utility may help. Read the Support Tools Help first.

Hi Guys, Thank-you for your help and suggestions. I did go to the registry and deleted the file MyCd 2.0 and all that it contained, but for some reason it is still in the Add/Remove list and I don't know what I should do to remove it from there. I still cannot install Record Now if that one isn't uninstalled first. I am running Windows XP Pro.
Please help and thank-you again!!!!! :)

If the support tools don't help, try a restore point that pre-dates installation of that application.

Install PowerToys for XP. It has a facility to remove items left behind in the Add/Remove list.

Where would I enable support tools from? I did try to re-store the system before posting with you but it would not re-store. My computer is an Amd K6- 2 3D 500MHZ (Daiwa)

Is Power Toys a seperate feature that you can buy or can it be downloaded for free through the net?

    Thanks again,
    Lucy

    :)

See my first post. The Support Tools have to be installed from the Windows XP Pro CD. I don't know if they are included with XP Home Edition. Once the tools are installed go to Start > All Programs > Windows Support Tools. Select "M" from the alphabetical listing of tools. Select Msicuu.exe and read the instructions and overview...carefully. If, when you run msicuu.exe and your application is not listed, then I don't know what to tell you at this point since you said restore "failed ". You might want to expand on that since it in itself is a problem depending on what you mean by "would not restore ".

Powertoys for Windows XP, which includes TweakUi, is currently unavailable from Microsoft Downloads.

I successfully downloaded Windows Support Tools (Complete).
So then I went: All Programs, Windows Support tools and there it gave me 3 choices: Comand Prompt
    Release notes
    Support Tools Help

It doesn't show me the Alphabetical list of tools from A to Z. Should I be looking or punching in something else for this to come up?

I was able to download PowerToys through Betastream.com News, but this feature didn't help my problem.

Choose Support Tools Help, then use the alphabetical listing on the right.

Hello Kevin, I've gone to the windows support tools help and alphabetical list and chose M, then the msicuu.exe. A list popped up with this inside of it: WebFldrs XP (All Users)
    Any further suggestions or help?
    Thanks,
    Lucy

No. Sorry. Since your application is not listed I don't have anything else to offer right now.

Depending on how long the application had been installed, the System Restore might have helped. What did you mean by "...it would not restore. "

The application was installed between the 6th of January and the 9th, not sure though. When I attempted to re-store the system it came back saying that it could not be restored from that point in which I chose. I'm frusterated, I'm sure you are feeling the same way!!!!

Yep. Kinda frustrating. You could try reinstalling MyCd 2.0 again, the try uninstalling it correctly. Aside from that, I'm out. Sorry.

    Hi Kevin,
I figured out on how to uninstall a program after I deleted it by mistake from the all programs list. I went to the registry and removed everything that was related to the program, then I reinstalled it and uninstalled it correctly by using Add/remove.
I hope this helps someone else in the future!!!
