Well i'm not trying to use any software. I have a home movie I archived and want to put it on a CD so I can put it on mine and others laptops.

Usually when I insert a CD-R into my computer I get a menu in how I want to open the CD but no longer get that. So when I search on My Computer and enter E:\ I get a message that E:\ is not accessible.

    Hello manu86,

I'm not clear on what you mean "search" My Computer. When you click on My Computer, does the ROM drive show up along with your other hardware devices? And if it does, what happens when you double click on it?

If it doesn't, does this happen only if you put in a blank cd but works with a "regular" cd which from what you write is a non writable cd?

And where is the home movie located now and what software are you going to use to burn it to the cd?

If by searching you mean you try to do search on that drive or you are double clicking on it while you have a blank CD in it, the error message you are getting is normal. The blank CD isn't formatted in any manner so Windows can't access it.

You say you aren't using any software and from your description of the menu you aren't getting I'm guessing you are using XP's built in software. So, to get the menu back, try this. Open My Computer and right click on the icon for the CDRW drive and choose properties. First, click the recording tab and make sure the line that says enable CD recording on this drive is checked. Then, click the autoplay tab. Click the down arrow to the right of the box at the top and then select blank CD. Then tick the line at the bottom that says prompt me each time to choose an action. Click apply, then OK. Then put a blank CD in the drive and see if it works.
