I need to convert a couple of PDF files to MS Word documents so I can modify and edit them. What's the easiest way to do that? I tried a couple of freeware options but they had unpublicized restrictions so they didn't work. Does anybody have a favorite freeware program that will quickly convert a 40 page PDF document to an MS Word document? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You can try the following website.
Zamzar - Free on-line file conversion
Upload your file(s), provide a email address and they will contact you when finished file/conversion is ready for download. The few times I've used pdf to doc, site provided a good file conversion.

Thanks, Dennis, I tried Zamzar, but it didn't work. The converted file was mostly garbage. I emailed them to ask about it, but haven't got a response.

    Any other possibilities?

    Thanks.

Thanks Tony, for the suggestion, but the Adobe site didn't work either. I put in the website url and then the PC sat there for 45 minutes saying "in progress" so I gave up.

This all seems very strange to me. All I want to do is convert a 40 page user manual to MS Word so I can take out some blank lines and make it shorter to print. It's only about 750 KB long so that's not very much. The user manual is for a telephone and it is at:

    http://edocs.mitel.com/UG/EN/2ICP_4025_UG_R2_EN.pdf

It's not worth buying software just to do this, but it would certainly be more convenient to have shorter manual. But I am puzzled why all the various options apparently will not convert this PDF file to an editable document in either DOC or TXT format.

Any further suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks !

    Good morning Roger
I downloaded your target pdf and uploaded same file to Zamzar. When comparing source pdf and Zamzar converted to doc file (viewed via WORD 97) I did not detect any corruption. I notice on the 2x Table of Content pages, the page held it's left side justfy, but the right side (page number column) had a minor left/right drift (Tab key justify should fix that). Other than that, the document appears to look good.
The output file I used can be downloaded (available to all for about 23 more hours) via the following link ....
    http://www.zamzar.com/getFiles.php?uid=8121757709251001196700934&targetID=Qts8kW5aHFf0ULPUdCwyew_I_I
File name is MitelSS4025.PDF, but download file is DOC.

Thanks so much for converting the file, Dennis, but now I'm really confused.

I downloaded the file you converted and it was fine.

So I uploaded my file another couple of times but it came back garbage both times.

Finally, I used the URL for the PDF file in Zamzar so that Zamzar loaded it directly from the website where it was stored. That worked !!! and it came back in MS Word format just fine.

So there is something that happens between the time I download the file and when I upload it to Zamzar. I am using Firefox, but I can't imagine that made any difference.

Anyway, I have what I need now, and don't really have more time to investigate it, although I don't really know what happened, unless you have any idea about it.

In any event, thanks again !!

    Glad it worked out. :D
Not sure what file you where downloading previously that was corrupted. When your file is converted, Zanzar sends you an email with a unique link to their site. This controls who has access to your file / download URL.
This site has the most file type conversions / free use of any site I've run across.

Would be interesting to see what your edited version looks like CONVERTED from DOC back to PDF.

I tried it one more time - uploading PDF to be converted to DOC. The DOC that came back was still garbage. Then I uploaded the DOC and converted it back to PDF. Still garbage. So I don't know what's going on. In any event, as I said, I do have what I need. Thanks again for the help.
