Can anyone help me with a new problem?
When I turn the PC on, it shuts off almost immediately and then tries to restart. This goes on for about 8 attempts before it starts?
I have a Gigabyte GA-P35-S3L MB, E4550 Dual Core CPU, GeForce 7200GS G-Card, 2 Gig of Ram, 40gig Hard Drive.
I was initally told it was power supply problem, installed new PSU and have same problem?
Thought it might have been in the BIOS as the CPU fan is connected to a PowerWatch system instead of the MB, so I disabled the smart fan to have the same problem.
This has only started in the last week and a half or so. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Scruffman,

You don't mention the OS, but as you say it shuts down almost immediately I think that you should try to get into the BIOS, and set it to default settings, before going any further. Are the fans actually turning during the failed start-up attempts?

Sorry for the late reply, but we just had our work xmas breakup, which by the way, was pretty **** good, anyway, I'm running XP, and the fans are running on startup which confuses the #$%& out of me.
So, I'll log off again and try the default setting and see what happens!
    cheers

    No, no beeps...
    Tried default settings, same results???
This is pretty annoying, I mean, only since I replaced the MB,CPU,RAM and Graphics card has this started and for the first few weeks after replacing these, everything was fine. Then one day, what I changed or whatever happened for this to start has me puzzled!

Odds are that the problem is related to one of these.

Start with the RAM - if matched pairs do NOT lose id of them, but remove 1 Gb, try - if OK try the other pair and so on - switch slots around i.e. put pair 1 in slots 1 & 3, then repeat for slots 2 & 4 - or whatever arrangement is on that board. If necessary use single sticks and move each stick around each slot in turn.

Download and run the hard drive diagnostics from .....
    ExcelStore ....

    Hitachi .....

    Samsung ....

    Seagate, Maxtor, Quantum .....
    http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/
    Western Digital ....

    and check out the drive.

If your old graphics card fits try that amd in any case remove all plugin cards including RAM modules and reseat. Do the same for all ribbon/SATA cables and power supplies.

This may be a long process of elimination, but you've got to go down that road IMO.

    Thanks for your tips PeteC,
I removed 1 stick of ram and the pc started ok?
Put the ram back in same slot, and the pc is still starting ok, don't know for how long, I have only done about 4 startups so far, but I will keep doing more start/stops to make sure it was the problem.
    Cheers

May be a dirty RAM slot or the module not properly inserted. Let's hope it was that simple :)
