VISTA Home Premium installed on a new HP Pavillion laptop with builtin wireless: Broadcom 4321AG 802.11a/b/g/draft-n Wi-Fi Adapter Adapter Type Ethernet 802.3 Product Type Broadcom 4321AG 802.11a/b/g/draft-n Wi-Fi Adapter.

I was getting 130Mbps througput so I read about this MS fix that was supposed to fix slow throughput (KB940646) in VISTA. I installed the hotpatch and now am getting only 13Mbps. I did check the version number on one of the files listed in the KB artical (netio.sys) and found that the hotfix version was indeed a newer version so I proceeded with the update.

Do I Uninstall this hotfix or what?

    Thanks in advance

    steveo39 - Welcome to the Board :)
That should be your first step.

Then check that the fix applies to your wireless card - do ....
I am not a networking person, but the above steps are clear enough to me :)

I uninstalled the hotpatch. However, the results are the same as they were after I patched. Sometimes, though rarely I get 130Mbps and it drops down to 13Mbps. I thought before I patched that every time I checked it was running at 130Mbps. I can't be sure now how often I checked it, but in my mind I'm thinking it took a hit. I just wonder if the uninstall really did uninstall the hotpatch?

I'll have to let the networking guys deal with this - not my territory :)

    Pete, thanks for your help.
I decided to make some changes in my router setup and now I'm getting 270Mbps every time I check. So maybe I didn't have a problem afterall. (DUH!) Did I mention this is a brand new computer and 2-week old router? And that I'm old and a little slow...?

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to repond to me.

BTW: Even checking out the wireless adapter at the Broadcom website I still could not determine if it was a "3G" type.

If anyone would like to jump in and tell me if I should apply that patch (KB940646) anyway, I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks to all
