Wireless will connect to unsecured only

    Hi,

    Ive just reinstalled my HP Compaq NC6120 with XP Home and fully patched it with ethernet connection. Problem i am having is that my wireless connection will only connect to unsecured networks.

    When i turn on the wireless connection i get the "duh duh" noise not the "daDA!" (sorry for my attempt at windows sounds) It will connect to unsecured networks but when i go to connect to a secured network it 'connects' but continuosly trys to obtain an IP address, i know its not a problem with my network/router because windows 'sounds' tell me something is not install correctly, ive tried reinstall drivers etc.. i even just reinstaled the operating system, still nothing..

    That laptop comes with either a Broadcom or Intel wireless adapter. Don't use the 3rd party (Broadcom or Intel) connection software, use the built in Windows Wireless Zero Config. Also, make sure the wifi button on laptop is "ON ". If you cannot connect using Windows wireless network connection software then most probably:
    1. Your access point does not support WPA even though your adapter does.
    2. incorrect WEP or WPA passkeys.
    3. wrong drivers for adapter.
