I am trying to transfer my E-Mail messages from XP Outlook Express 6 to my new computer running Vista Windows mail. I've copied the .DBX files from my old computer to a memory stick, but when I try to import them into Windows mail it says ' No items match your search'
    Any help please?

It's kind of hard to describe...But there is a link/button at the bottom of one of the windows that you have to click on...Its the same window when you've drilled down to where the dbx files are.

Steve, I don't see what you mean, When I browse to my memory stick where the .DBX files are it doesn't see them.

The dbx files are normaly system hidden files. You probably need to disable that in folder options.

There's a glitch in the Import Messages feature. Took me quite a while to figure it out.

Once you get to the Browse button in the Import wizard and click on it, find the folder where the dbx files are and click on it, then click on the "Select Folder" button, you'll see back in the wizard that Vista has put the name of the folder in twice. Since that's not the correct path, it gives you that error message. It won't let you correct it there, either.

Here's the solution: Once you get to the point where you click on what you want to import, after you click on that but before you click the Select Folder button, look over in the "Folder" field to the left of the Select Folder button. The name of the folder you selected should be showing. Delete the name of the folder in that field and with that field empty(yes, it sounds dumb but it works), click the Select Folder button.

Now back in the wizard, the path will be correct and you can continue.

Steve, the dbx files aren't hidden as I can see them in windows explorer.

Miz, When I browse to my memory stick where the dbx files are, it puts in the folder box 'Removable Disk (F)' if I delete this and click select folder it comes up with a box with f:\ and an option to Browse, if I then click Next it says No messages can be found in this folder.

Do you see the "then click on the "Select Folder" button?"

That's the one I couldn't remember the name of.

Steve, yes I can see the 'Select Folder' button but when I click on it, it comes up with 'F:\' and another option to browse or click next, when I click next I get 'No messages can be found in this folder'

Make sure F is highlighted before clicking the select folder button.

Try copying the .dbx files into a folder on the hard drive or make a folder on the memory stick and put the files into it.

Evidently the import wizard is looking for a folder and the concept of importing files that aren't in a folder is beyond its abilities. ;)
