Only Office apps - not in general?

Further research sez that also: ... "For multitasking, they generated a multiprocess workload scenario involving a client-server database and streaming media tasks. "

Testing Office mainly certainly wasn't comprehensive or conclusive, but if it speeds up the slow Office suite then that's like Mt. Everest LOL.

I'll take any speed bonus that comes with SP3, not that I find it slow :), but MS must have something up their sleeves as SP3 was flagged as basically a patch roll up with one additional component.

Yes, a nice surprise from MS if the gold release also stays faster...

Right now I'm dinking with the newly installed IE7 (yes I'm a wait-and-see'er) and was sort of *surprised* that it installed without a hitch. Thankyou MS :)

A 10% speed increase is not somthing you will be able to notice in day-to-day tasks.

Is it possible XP/SP3 has harnessed some advantages via Core 2 Duo??

Further delving into Devil http://exo-blog.blogspot.com/2007/11/windows-xp-sp3-yields-performance-gains.html revealed:
As to if the SP3 itself has particular code to "harness some advantages via Core 2 Duo" that's way beyond me.

Arie I'll take 10% of anything, like nearly a second off opening PS Elements, 4 seconds off Office... The important-est thing to me in this test is that XP SP3 RC didn't slow ops down. Now if the Final release to us is the same performance...

Did you per chance volunteer as one of the 15,000 testers... If so, how do you like it so far?

I sure Arie was offered the SP3 beta to test like I was/am. I just don't have a machine I can afford to kill:eek:

Yup, as a previous tester I was asked to participate. To date haven't much testing done besides installing, but I have some time later next month to take a closer look.
