    Yes they can.

If on XP or Vista, type burn into Help & Support for instructions.

If not XP, the burner software should have an option to erase.

    BTW, no need to Format.

    Hello MIR,

This is what you should be seeing:

To erase files from a CD Open My Computer.

Double-click the CD recording drive. Windows displays the files and folders located on the CD.

Under CD Writing Tasks, click erase this CD-RW. Windows displays the CD Writing Wizard.

Follow the instructions in the wizard to delete the files on the CD-RW.

    Notes
To open My Computer, click Start, and then click My Computer.

Erasing the CD deletes all the files on the CD; you cannot select individual files to delete.

Not all CDs are erasable. If the CD you are using is not erasable, for example, a CD-R, then this feature is not available.

For a test - the cd could be bad or it was finalyzed - the cd burner could have a problem, etc. If any one of these conditions is true, XP won't display "writing tasks ".

However, we're getting nowhere fast. Your burning software - Roxio, Sonic, Nero - all these will erase the cd.

What did you use to write the files to the cd you want to erase?

    How Erase a CD-RW

I have Nero V 5, there is no Erase that i can find.
I found a "cut and send to notepad" but that did not work either

When burning files out, at the point that Nero is ready to burn, it will detect that it has an RW and that there are files already present on the cd - somewhere along this chain, nero will ask whether to erase the cd or to append the new file to the one's already there.

And in Nero's Help files - search for erase, see what you come up with.

MIR11, I also have Nero V5.0........On the Menu there is a selection for Recorder and the drop down list shows Erase Rewritable.

See section 2 of the manual under menu structure.
