Windows updater

    When I run the Windows Updater I am taken to the Microsoft Windows Updater. Then my computer is scaned by Microsoft to see if I need any updates. The scan will run and run until it just times out. I don't get any error messages. It does this everytime. Is their anything I can do to get the scan process to work. I am using windows XP.

    Find your WindowsUpdate.log.

    To open this log, go to Start > Run and type

    %windir%/WindowsUpdate.log

    and press OK.

    Post the last 50 lines or so here.

    I have also noticed the my Microsoft Defender will not update either.

    Guided Help will not download. Says to try again later. Does that sound right?

    When I get to step 5 part 2 their are no lines for windows update.

    So skip it, and continue with 6. Next make sure you have this update installed.

    Nothing seemed to work so I did a restore back to the day of the problem, then followed up with this repair http://www.support.microsoft.com/kb/936181 and everything is back to normal. Thanks for the help.
