My office has received a few new PCs (mine is: Intel Core Duo, 2 GHz, 2 GB RAM, SP2) however we are having a problem. I use remote desktop to connect to work from home after hours, and I have been finding that my computer has turned itself off. This happens every night.

I have changed all of the power save settings to an Always On setting, disabled Hibernation, disabled the screen saver and still find that it shuts down on its own. There is no error message that Windows shut down improperly when I hit the power button and start it up the next morning. This is a real startup, not waking up from sleep or power save modes. Nobody else has physical access to the computer when I am not there.

I have checked the event logs and there is nothing that indicates that there was a shutdown initiated. The only event log available that isn't a system process is the startup entry from the day before and the one from today.

Can someone please point me in the right direction of getting my computer to stay on all night? This is only happening on the new computers. Is there some settings that I didn't put correctly?

"we are having a problem "...you are using Remote Desktop. Are any of the other people using Remote Desktop and do they have the same experience? (In other words, is it isolated to your computer?)

Magamus - Welcome to the Board :)

I am a home user, but I'll throw in my 2 cents worth - is there any software that runs on the computer at night as a scheduled task which may have the option to shut down the computer when done? What brought this to mind is Nero 7 in which there is an option to shut down the computer when done.

When you arrive back in the office in the morning is the power light on the computer lit?

Along with what Pete mentioned, (regarding software that has the option to shutdown after doing something) I have used PcAnywhere and that has an option to restart after ending a session.

I have never used remote desktop...does remote desktop have those types of features?

Since we're talking about an office computer, 1st thing is to ask the IT staff. It could also be that they run backup software in the evening that shuts the computer down when finished.
