I have OE6 on XP Pro and I am unable to open attachments on my emails anymore. The "attachments" box in Tools/Security has been unchecked. When I do try, I always get the Mail Attachment box that asks if I am sure that I want to open it. Upon clicking OPEN, nothing happens. Not sure what to try next. Thanks!

Hi Pete, yes I can save the files. I will take a look at the re-registering link that you provided. Thanks, Larry

Well, I never got to the re-registering part because the pre-reregistering activities such as going offline and compacting the folders seemed to fix it!

    Thanks!!

    Good news :)

Point to bear in mind .....

Max size for OE folders is 2 GB, but OE can get very quirky long before then.

    Hey Pete,

Well, now that is good to know. I will ck around my office, too. Just find the dbx files and see how big they are??

    Thanks again, Larry

Sure - if any are over 1 Gb post back and I'll go through a method of reducing the size while retaining all the contents.

It looks like my biggest dbx file is 352Mb. Still got a ways to go. I assume that the easiest way to reduce the size is to split the folder into 2 or 3? Is there a better way?? Lar

Yes - that would have been my suggestion.

Make a folder, say InboxOld - highlight the oldest mails in Inbox, ~1/2 the total, and drag them to the new folder.

Those messages I keep are all filed in specific folders and sub folders so that no one folder is excessively large and - in theory- I know where a specific mail is :)

I don't know of a limit to the no. of folders, but I doubt that will be a problem.

Thanks a lot, Pete. I am not sure what purpose compacting the folders has other than saving space but it is more important than I thought. Guess I will stop pressing the cancel button so often! :)

Best regards from Los Angeles, Lar

I would suggest you continue to press that cancel button. Then do it manually. This allows you to go off line first which is something you should really do before compacting. Corruption can occur if OE should happen to check the mail server and download new mail while the folders are being compacted. ;)

Hi Zander, thanks for the heads up on how to Compact without creating file corruption.
